Do you have a slot in your regular meeting that
could be brightened up by the presence of a couple or more bellydancers?
Maybe your nursing or residential home has a space we could dance in?
We have years of experience entertaining societies,
associations and residential homes and will tailor our programme to
you Treat yourselves to a visit by the Shimmies: a talking point
for many a month!
Over the years the Shimmy Sisters have entertained at a variety of events
in establishments for the elderly all over Surrey and south London.
We understand the constraints of space and attention span the needs
of those whose hearing or sight may not be quite a good as ours!
We entertain and stimulate the senses of sight and sound through our
colourful costumes and music.
We are happy to bring along on request tactile props for audiences such
as feather boas, veils and finger cymbals especially for those whose
hearing or sight is impaired so they can experience touching silky veils
and fluffy feather boas or have a look at our costumes close to.
We perfume our silk veils to add another dimension to our dance.
As part of our visit we could talk about the history of our dance and
show you our beautiful costumes close up - usually very popular with
ladies who used to dance or sew regularly - as well as put on a sensational
floorshow and then demonstrate a few of the moves to you and give you
the chance to get up and have a jiggle with us!
In over eight years of dancing together as a troupe we have had wonderful
feedback from our audiences - care home managers have told us there
is an
increase in alertness and interest once the music begins as well as
a talking point and something for residents and their families to look
forward to
- we make sure our costumes are bright and jingly and would be quite
happy to cover our stomachs should you feel some residents would prefer
this
"This is the first time in years I've
seen my mother smile - thank you!"
We would usually stay for a good half-hour to 45 minutes and include
a 20-minute performance followed by some music for the more sprightly
to join in with if they wish as well as circulate and talk about the
dance, our costumes and stimulate discussion about residents' dancing
past!
- we encourage clapping along and can make a particular fuss of a birthday
girl or someone who needs cheering up if they are pointed out to us
(and of course will not single out individuals too on your advice)
Our gentle manner, smiling faces and cheeky but not rude/lewd style
of dancing, combined with music, colour and movement
is sure to brighten up the day of your residents and staff both!
