:: Bank Holiday
Monday 31st August ::
All seven Shimmy Sisters were present as one of the headlining
acts at the Merton Change4Life
roadshow,
an event combining the NHS Change4life
initiative and the Merton Horticultural Show.
We danced a varied half-hour set in the bucolic setting of Morden Park
in the most perfect Bank Holiday sun,
but reluctantly had to abandon our Dance of the Seven Veils as the lovely
cooling wind wasn't having any of it!

Our thanks go to Louise and in particular to charming soundman Dick for
sorting out the stage and music for us
- he said we'd built up the largest audience of the day some of whom came
along later to learn Shimmy Sister bellydance
moves and grooves at our mini bellydance taster session organised by salsa-dancing
Jen Smith
who we all thought was a pretty smart mover in the Change4Life tent

Sunday 2nd August ::

The
Croydon Mela in Lloyd Park
Perfect sunny weather, happy crowds
thronging around Lloyd Park in Croydon, music and movement every direction
you looked
- the Mela was a delight to perform at.
Semera was stunning dancing as part of Danni's flamenco troupe "Flamenco
con gusto". Their set included rumbas and fandangos
and their finale proved extremely popular with the crowd who enthusiastically
shouted 'ole' to cheer on the dancers!
Sharon and Kathi danced with Ann as Bollissima, on behalf of Apsara Arts
and enchanted the audience with their new dance to Mauja Hi Mauja
from the film Jab we Met, a fast, fun bhangra-inspired number that got
the audience clapping and cheering, followed by a revival of Jogan and
finally
a duet between Ann and Kathi to Mereboob Mere which earned Kathi some
of the most fulsome compliments she'd ever had about her
bollywood dancing. Aaaah, bless!!!

Sarah, Kathi, Jill and Becky performed
for a lovely and lively crowd in Sutton High Street as part of the events
organised for Sutton's
Take
Part Take Pride initiative. We were very fortunate in that the rain
stayed away for the duration of our set and we'd like to thank
all the organisers for their very positive feedback - including Gary
pictured with us below, whose band Protegem played an excellent set
(watched from the comfort of a nearby coffee house in our case!)
